Supermarket

Supermarket is a multimedia installation formed by shelves full of manufactured food, mirrors, monitors and an audio system.

The composition of the room consists of two opposite walls fully occupied with horizontal shelves and mirrors. The sound of the exhibition reproduces the noise from totalizer machines and from shopping carts in motion. The monitors display a looping video of the performance held inside a supermarket in operation, where I lead a shopping cart and I consume products from the gondolas directly to my body.

This  artwork reveals our culture of excess and waste in relation to food. The content of the video in the exhibition shows between industrialized and superfluous food, symbolically recreates the human relationship, often distorted and distant of the nature of the food and your body.

The invitation to participate of the people, when entering the artwork celebrates encounter between the audience, the artist and his work but essentially turns the viewer to become a partaker in the central idea of the installation: the impulse of consumption that dominates contemporary society.
